Sweetheart Mermaid Gown by Atelier Pronovias
I had "pinned" this dress on Pinterest years ago, and happened to find it in a showroom in NYC when I wasn't even looking for it. When I tried it on, I said "I think I know this dress..." and sure enough, it was one I'd been coveting for years!
The beautiful mermaid shape, simple silhouette, and minimalist details make this a total showstopper. This classy, form-fitting gown is elegant and timeless. As one of my friends commented at our wedding "you look like an Academy Award!"
It is designed to fit like a glove, and show off your natural curves. The button detail down the back is gorgeous: luckily, there's a zipper closure underneath so you don't have to worry about doing up all of those tiny buttons on your wedding day.
Stunning in its simplicity, the sinuous lines of a smooth crepe mermaid gown show off and flatter a curvaceous figure. Off-the-shoulder styling creates a beautiful framework for your face, and a sweeping train adds romantic drama - Nordstrom
I'm 5'5" and was ~135lbs at the time of my wedding. This dress was altered to fit my pear-shaped body: 40" hips, 28" waist, 32D chest. There originally was boning in the torso, but it showed through the crepe fabric, so I had it removed. I had the train shortened a bit, but it is still grand enough for those looking to add some drama.
Pricing is reflective of the following blemishes:
- 3 small areas of faint discoloration - on the train near the edge, on the back right side of the dress, the other is on the front
- 2 areas with abrasion marks (or "runs") - on the front and on the back. The bridal salon said to try ironing around the pulls from the inside of the dress to help "relax" the fabric. As there isn't a clear "loop" in the fabric, this is probably the best option, but if a seamstress can find the loop they should be able to fix it.
