This wedding dress by Sophia Moncelli from the 2014 collection. I bought this dress at a consignment store in 2016, it has been professionally cleaned and is unaltered. I would describe it as a wedding dress featuring , a A-line silhouette, and a Queen Ann, Sweetheart neckline.
This is one amazing dress! Everything we love about watching Kleinfeld on Say Yes to the Dress is here--a sweetheart bodice adorned with small flower appliqués, sparkling crystal rhinestones, gleaming pearls, and meandering bugle beads, all done on tulle laid over duchesse satin ... then a sweeping skirt with more pearls and beading and embroidery, most lavish at the waist and hips, spreading out to a sweeping hem that ends in a train. The skirt has a bit of stiffer tulle underneath to give it some body, but it will still drape to you as you walk (see the first photo). And the top can be worn with or without the wide tulle straps, so you can go totally strapless--the bodice is well boned (and the boning is lightly padded inside, so it won't dig into you). And it has a belt!
The designer is Sophia Moncelli, who was exclusive to Kleinfeld's between 2012 and 2016 and comparable to Pnina. It's very clean, no staining inside or out.
The size is good, too. It is marked a 22, but like most wedding dresses, it has been altered. It fits more like a 14 now (see measurements below). The first photos have been pinned to the mannequin, who measures 35-24-36. The pictures after size tag show the dress let loose--which means it's baggy on her--but they give a better sense of its current proportions.
I have done my best to measure accurately, but keep in mind that the bust sizes of strapless dresses are VERY hard to get right. And you will probably want to alter this one to suit your shape too. I never had it altered, and I've grown beyond the measurements I had when purchased. I bought it unworn and through a consignment shop, and I never wore it.
MEASUREMENTS
Waist: 35
Under-bust: 38
Estimated cup size: C--I don't have someone who fits this bodice, so this is just an estimate. The bust seems to be a 42, but it is hard to be sure with a strapless gown.
CONDITION
Condition is overall very good. The gown is clean, including the underarms. But there are some imperfections:
- I count about six places where a bead or other little embellishment is missing.
- A few of the crystals and pearls are loose here and there. You'll want to go over the whole dress and see where threads need tightening. None of them are falling off.
- I'm not sure Kleinfeld's department put on the tulle shoulder straps. The stitches are very big. Also, there's ruching at the top of the right one but not of the left. Somebody else may have just based them on. I always intended to take them off; removing them will leave no mark.
- The side seams of the duchesse satin have been opened about 18 inches from the waist downward. I think somebody was planning an alteration? They are easy enough to sew up. I could do it for you, but I don't have a Kleinfeld-level sewing machine.
- A little bit of lace trim on the inner stiff tulle has come loose. I found it only at the last minute--easy to sew up.
And that's it! This is a gorgeous dress that will serve you very well and needs only a little bit of effort to achieve perfection again. This is a rare chance to get an embellished Kleinfeld princess dress of your very own!
Alterations
I believe this was altered to fit the measurements I've given above (about 42 or 43 [strapless] with an under-bust of 38 and a waist of 35).
