YUMI KATSURA is one of Japan’s and the world’s most prolific designers, whose wedding dresses are considered modern masterpieces. Her gowns are made from only the finest fabrics and materials in the world. Her relevancy has lasted over time, even recently being featured in a hugely popular video game for options for the characters. Katsura has designed gowns for royalty and celebrities for over 42 years.
This gown, while vintage, is made from the softest Japanese raw silk and feels like a dream on. The silk has changed color somewhat over the years to more of an ivory shade, which you can see in the photos, but not very noticeable to the naked eye. The bodice is hand-sewn beading and embroidery with a hidden zipper in the back under the buttons. I had all alterations done at Yumi Katsura boutique in New York City, including sized down from a size 14 to a size 10, a bussel sewn into the train and custom veil and hairpiece and sheer sleeves made to match. I am the original owner and the original price was $5,500.
The only flaws in the dress are a few faint stains (see photos) which may be removed by a professional, but I did not want to try myself, some pulling can be seen from the bussel ties on the bottom of the silk skirt (this may be something that can be fixed by a seamstress?). There are no major flaws, tears, etc. Another option would be to use this stunning bodice and create whatever type bottom skirt you like instead of keeping the mermaid style bottom. The bodice is truly the masterpiece of this dress.
The top fits approximately a 34/36 B-C bust. Again, a longer skirt as it fits a 5'10-5'11" inch tall in heels. Photos were taken at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach. I still have the original tags (see photos).
